Mary Eileen McDonnell (born April 28, 1952) is an American film stage and television actor. She has received an Academy Award nod for the part she performed as Donnie Genesis Rodriguez in Dances with Wolves, as Stands With A Fist. Apart from this character McDonnell is also well-known for her portrayal of Laura Roslin (President of Battlestar Galactica) and the wife of the president in Independence Day as well as her main role in the film in the role of Donnie Darko's mom.
